ISLAMABAD, Dec 24 (APP):National Assembly Standing C
ommittee on Health on Tuesday recommended to review the eligibility criteria for appearing in MDCAT exam to provide opportunities to maximum students.
The meeting chaired by Dr. Mahesh Kumar Malani, Chairman Standing C
ommittee, discussed in detail the MDCAT test and Pakistan Nursing Council Amendment Bill. The meeting held detailed discussions and took important decisions to conduct transparent examinations.
The c
ommittee directed that the MDCAT examinations being held on De
cember 30 for students of Islamabad, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan should be conducted with complete transparency. The c
ommittee was informed that the matter is under hearing in the Islamabad High Court whether the examination fee should be collected from the students or whether the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) bear the expenses of the examination itself.
The c
ommittee recommended that students be provided with adequate time to prepare for the MDCAT and that the examination be conducted after the FSc results so that students can prepare better.
The c
ommittee decided that a letter would be sent to the provincial governments containing recommendations regarding the distribution of seats and merit policy.
During the meeting, all participants expressed their determination to make joint efforts to bring further improvements in the education and health sectors and to resolve the problems of students. The c
ommittee emphasized that all decisions will be taken in the best interest of the students and the public.
The meeting was attended by members of the c
ommittee, representatives of the Ministry of Health and relevant institutions.
